  • Tabletop Game Night 8.10.17 - Tyrants of the Underdark

    This evening we had a blast playing Tyrants of the Underdark, a relatively new game blending some old concepts together. TotU is an area control and deckbuilder game in one and we felt it does both pretty well! Wintertide had the most experience with this one but Moose had also played a number of games. Watch as the noobs battle the experienced in this single game of Tyrants. Who will win? You'll probably never guess...

  • Tabletop Gameternoon 8.5.17 - Masmorra: Dungeons of Arcadia

    This may very well be the longest episode of Tabletop ever. The game is Masmorra: Dungeons of Arcadia. The players are ready, sword, bow, or ...whatever else, in hand. We're gonna explore this dungeon, kill some bad guys, mess with each other a little bit, and hopefully it will all be over soon for someone. Crowfall is an MMORPG from the creative director of Shadowbane. They are slowly revealing it up until the big reveal. It appears to be full on hardcore with PVP. The philosophy of their game design can be found here and major differences Crowfall has with other MMORPGs can be found here .


Beta Sign Up Information: Sign up to the official website and you are automatically enrolled. It places you in line, so the earlier you sign up, the earlier you can get in beta. At some point in the future they will request system specs and guild name. If it is done anything like Shadowbane was, they will invite entire guilds into the game since it is a very guild focused game. A guild name will need to be decided on to submit it under. Many in Noble Impact have already signed up for beta.

Just what the MMO world needs right now, another low budget FFA PvP Sandbox / Survival MMO with annoying "gameplay" elements.

EDIT: Looking over it, they have a decent art style at least.

If it is anything like Shadowbane, it may be FFA, but the point is guild warfare with territory control and the construction of cities and castles. Alliances and diplomacy is a major part of it. By far the best meta PVP experience any MMO has ever had.

Another preview was posted here . The character creation looks very similar to Shadowbane's.

Shadowbane was really nothing like any Korean attempt at guild warfare. Shadowbane was far closer to what the EVE metagame became, but with castles and fantasy races.

I added an interview of the design lead which has a preview of the crafting system in it.

I'll keep harping on this til the cows come home: Todays players don't give a rats ass about faction pride/territory control.

They want to win at all costs, even if it means the downfall of the actual game. This is why all realm PVP MMO's implode after the first few months. The players themselves ruin it.

When studios come to their senses and realize what a lot of players want is a wide open, complex, sandbox type MMO with optional or even no PVP, then we'll have something. Is it a lot of players? No. It'll still have a hell of a lot more players than FFA PVP garbage.

I don't even think a "wide open, complex, sandbox type MMO" is enough. You absolutely have to have solid content built on top of it. None of this "player makes the content" BS. Terraria and Minecraft are successful because they built a solid game around the sandbox and let players go from there.

That's why I think games like H1Z1 are poor excuses for a MMO. The game was built around players making the content instead of having solid gameplay, they basically threw together a barebones FPS with crafting instead and generic zombie enemies that aren't dangerous at all and wanted players to make the content, rather than designing some solid stuff for the players to work around.

Basically what I'm getting at is the game needs to have some well designed (keyword here: designed) PvE content or if you want a pure PvP game, it needs to have specifically designed PvP content. Don't just drop a player in a world randomly and expect them to make the content. These games are griefer's paradises and have problems in bringing in new players because their experience is ruined by assholes every time.

Also throwing this down here in the body just in case nobody goes back to the top. Typically for stuff like mass beta invites we use Impact Gaming or IGC as the guild name.

If people are interested, sign up for the beta. However, I will need a point person to take the lead on major details concerning the guild itself. I will assist with recruitment after we see a little more of the game and whether we want to commit on any level.
